Chapter 28
Jerusalem,
State of Israel,
May 1993
Tamir looked closely at the writing on the wall of Talâs parentsâ living room. The two had spent many hours in this room as children, and Tamir felt the same sense of violation his friend did at the growing audacity of the Martyr Underground. Now they were threatening Tal openly, and at his parentsâ home. Dorit drew near Tamir, who was examining the writing on the wall, âWhat are you trying to find here?â
Tamir frowned. âI am trying to figure out if this is the same paint that the Martyr Underground used in their attack on the IMI Foundation Facility. Before blowing up the factory, they sprayed repeated warnings around the factory similar to the content of this warning. Since the attack on the IMI factory, the Martyrs have been quietâthis is the first time they have spray-painted such a warning again. If they are sticking to their previous operational methodology that means they are only one step before escalating to direct action.â
Tal, who remained seated on the couch, cut into their conversation, âI need to get back to Apollonia and supervise the salvage operations. I think we will have to change the timetable for the relocation of the Device to Jerusalem, and we will have to carry out the relocation under heavy security coverage. I will need to get the prime minister to sign off on this.â
Tal tried to decide how he should act given the direct threat he and his family faced. His parents had arrived about an hour after they had discovered the warning. They discovered, much to their surprise, not only their son and his girlfriend, but also Tamir, his childhood friend, and several other strangers who identified themselves as General Security Service agents.
Tal had been authorized to notify his parents that he held a classified position in the Prime Ministerâs Office and that they might face threats such as these. Now that the threat had materialized, Tal wanted to transfer his parents to a safe house where they would be protected from future attacks.
âForget it, there is no way that we are leaving,â declared Aryeh, Talâs father. âIf you want to keep us safe then arrange security around our house, but no more.â Aryeh was adamant and Tal was indeed forced to arrange for security with Tamir and his GSS associates.
After dropping Dorit off at their Tel-Aviv apartment, Tal drove to the Apollonia facility. When he halted his vehicle by the highly secured IMI facility, he asked the guards to keep extra alert given the explicit threat he had just received.

The warehouse where all the components of the Temple Foundation Device and Rock of Ages were stored, was secured with cutting-edge electronic systems and a score of soldiers from the Rock of Ages Guardian Order surrounded it from all sides.
The commander of the guard saluted to Tal and signaled to the guard by the door to open the passage for the head of the Rock of Ages Restorers.
Tal entered the massive warehouse, which spread across over five hundred square meters.
